F-106 Arbiter

F-106 Arbiter: Defense Class
Real name:  F-22X Raptor

The F-106 Arbiter is the closest thing to a stealth fighter in this game.  Fully upgraded defense class planes already have a +20% stealth rating and the Arbiter adds another +10%.  This will make it much harder for your opponent to lock onto you with their missiles.  The boost in armor is good also.  I have a hard time getting too excited about the boost in energy, since defense class planes have a ton of energy reserves already.  The Missile resistance is a cool upgrade and is only available on the Arbiter and the Dragon.

See PLANE COMPARISON TABLES for detailed assessment of all the planes performance ratings.

You don't tend to see many Arbiters in versus matches.  I am currently saving up for an Arbiter and looking forward to seeing how the stealth characteristics work - curious if other readers have used the Arbiter and if you have an opinion of its performance.

Amazing shot of a real Raptor breaking the sound barrier

    1. this is a good plane its good for survival mode and maybe campaign mode.they should have another plane that has a body of this good plane.

    2. this is the best plane on that game for survival and an excellent plane for vs. However I would recommend upgrading it and buying the best missiles you can afford and the best cannon you afford as well.

    3. they DO have a reskinned F-106, it's called the thresher, it's an agility class though.

I love this plane, it caried me all the way through campaign level 5; I earned my laurals flying the Arbiter. This plane introduced me to defense class, and taught me how to fly these lumbering beasts.

I will always remember you, my sweet, sweet Arbiter.... Sadly, I almost never fly this plane any more. What a shame..

This was a great plane however I don't use it anymore because I have the dragon problem is you don't have armor regen except if u upgrade it even then not great regen unlike dragon

  2. Looks like Arbiter is the worst top tier plane ever.

  3. I tend to prefer the Arbiter for Co-Op Survival mode but I then really need another Arbiter pilot or a Red Widow/Hawken to make it deep into rounds. The problem with the Arbiter is that it just doesn't reload missiles quickly. Around round 16 and onward, you often start out under attack with at least 3-4 missiles quickly fired on you and you have to go defensive immediately. If you don't have a great wingman, even your "stealth" and regenerative armor are not going to be enough for you to survive. Maneuvering eats up your energy and your armor doesn't regenerate quick enough. I was paired last night with another Arbiter pilot and we made it to round 18 but then he got wacked and there was no way I could take on six bogeys on my own because the thing just has no agility.

One important thing in co-op is to make sure your partner has his mike on so you can tell him to "rag" the last surviving bogey in any round to allow your armor to regenerate. Time and time again my partners have killed the last bogey too quickly and I went into a late round with only 50 percent or less of my armor. Patience is a virtue!

  4. I love to use the Arbiter in Versus Mode, just for the joy of dissimilar air combat, especially against agility class planes like the Thresher. However I am still not sure how to make best use of the Arbiter's superior Stealth ability: 1. Does it work the same on far, middle and close range or does it only "hide" the Arbiter to some degree, if there is a considerable distance between own aircraft and opponent?
    2. Is stealth ability different if I fly slow or fast? (Do air brakes or extra thrust disturb the stealth characteristics?)
    3. Do evasive maneuvers disturb the stealth characteristics?
    3. Are the stealth characteristics dependent on the attitude of own aircraft towards opponent (head-on, flank, tail)?
So what is the best tactics to exploit the stealth superiority of the Arbiter?

    1. the opponent has to see the red square to have their missile track you. stealth means that it will take your opponent longer to lock on you/they dont lock on you, without a lock, they cant track you with their missile

      Delete
    2. Stealth is a measure of how long another plane takes to lock on... to use stealth to its full potential stay just out of sight, or when you are visible, make sure you're not visible long enough for them to lock on... Take your shot while they are still locking on and then get out of sight.

  5. is there any advice on how i could take advantage of this plane?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Get farther away from your opponent. then, go in fast with the boost and fire your missiles the second you get a chance then boost away. Use the cannon from a distance as well.

  6. i think the arbiter is great, i use it for everything, that old fully upgraded wraith is just collecting dust. would help if missle reload speed is faster

  7. i think the stealth works well, i was playing vs a hawken and i locked on before they did

  8. The Arbiter is great, but in a dogfight, it's just a sitting duck stealth or no stealth. I just got a new Paladin w/o upgrades, fought an Arbiter with Vympels and a Hades and whooped it 5-1.

    ReplyDelete
  9. They upgraded the Arbiter.... Missle resist become DMG resist. Not sure if this is an april fools joke by Z2, but that's what I see on Ipod Touch.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The arbiter is first published as DMG resist. Then a week after metalstorm 4.0.0 update, they downgraded it to missile resist. They're just reverting it back

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. whats DMG resist?

      Delete
    2. Resistance against both missile damage and cannon damage

      Delete
    3. Isn't that basically what armour is?

      Delete
    4. No. Armor is the total health points that your plane has, while damage resistance is basically taking less damage.

      Delete
    5. There is, obviously, a way to compare armor to DMG resist. One question is if DMG resist is a negatively applied to the DMG bonus of the attacker or applied to the final damage. In the latter case, DMG Resist becomes better the better the opponent, i.e. it is more value against a Sentinel with Vympels than against a Raider with Sidewinders whereas Armor is the other way around (x% more armor will grant you more relative survival against the lighter attack than the heavier.

  11. What is the top speed of a fully upgraded arbiter? I just bought one but haven't upgraded it yet. It is agonizingly slow and so is the missile reload speed. I was really looking forward to buying it but I probably should have bought the hawken instead. I wish Z2 would give the hawken some extra missile lock range though.

  13. arbiter is good but it needs more armor regen

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No it doesn't. With the Dragon you get 5% armor regen which costs 54000 credits(not availible anymore). Now that this thing is at 15000 credits, there's no way z2 would change it. Get a raven for pete's sake.

You should buy Hawken for ways to get a lot of skill rating.

      Delete
    3. A) get a higher SR wingman. That helps. When you say "can't pass" do you mean you can't get all the bonuses?
      B) As you're killing the stuff in the harbor, also kill the hanger in port. If that is down by the time the invasion starts you don't get any enemy fighters (which allows you to focus on ground targets).
      C) For the two buildings, take them out right after you've taken out the ordinary defense in the area. Make sure you've extended out a good way before hitting the building (so that you are still on your first pass as the new defendants start coming out).

Overall it is a highly scripted encounter just like all the others. Once you figure out the pace it is pretty easy to pass (although I sometimes do loose one of the tanks and loose that bonus).

    2. Good to hear. As for your question "should you by the arbiter" ... not for campaigns. Nothing is better at campaigns than a missile gunslinger. Either Hawken or Hurricane probably come out on top but I'm doing just fine with my Eagle-X.

  18. The Arbiter has always been my favorite defense class plane until the re-release of the Dragon. It boasts good damage resist and good stealth. It could use a bit more energy and armor. I've been to wave 22 solo in my Arbiter, no further. It's not a good fighter in versus matches or in campaign, but is great in survival if you don't have a Dragon. Speaking of the Dragon, have any of you noticed that the Arbiter is designated "F-106" while the Dragon is arguably better but is designated "F-105"? It doesn't matter though. What does matter is that Z2 is going all out and releasing a Defense class plane, the R-94 Achilles I believe, that has these stats:
    Stealth - 12%
    Damage - 10%
    Speed - 15%
    Evasion - 6%
Cost: 390 blue coins - crazy!

These defense class planes are turning into unstoppable juggernauts. Why should people with credit planes and credit weapons (RAAMS) have to go up against these monstrosities. The Arbiter is a fair plane no, but this defense class superweapon is a notch too far. I like to hear people's views.

@MetalStormForever - Thank you for keeping us fliers posted up on the latest information. We all appreciate it greately.

  19. the arbiter is great, but the raven is better. the arbiter has a place in my heart though beacuse i beat the campaign with it. Chilarmy i agree with you completely in the fact about the achilles. another thing is that why did they discontinue the green eagle if they are realesing new planes like the achilles. tell me is you agree. ops dude

It's not the new planes they need, but more campaign mode. If you play through the entire dialogue of mission 3, it really leaves players hanging. Also, once Z2 realizes that the demand for a plane has gone up, they raise the price. The Red Widow 8 months ago was 180 coins, but now, just released, it's 205 coins.

  20. for the arbiter, the armor regen seems to be 9 percent. glitch? and i love the arbiter. the armor can take so much beating!

    1. I have a feeling that has to do with the damage resistance, taking less damage as opposed to having more armor means that regen is effectively faster. I could be wrong though.

    1. Obviously you haven't played long. One month? If you played longer you wouldve realized that each class specializes in one mode. Weapons for campaign, agility for vs, and defense for survival.

  22. The Arbiter's F-22 airframe, shared with the Thresher, seems to be exceptionally good at dodging missiles. It may have something to do with the short wingspan, but I'm not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Arbiter, in my opinion, looks the very best of all the planes in the game. The F-22 airframe is epic, and that techy blue look with the green canopy really drives home the point that this plane is a stealth fighter.

  24. I hate the arbiter I can barely dodge missiles and only got to wave 6

    1. You have to actually upgrade it, get good missiles and cannons if you really wanna kick some ass. If you already have, then you suck at this game.

  25. I have made it to level 20 with my Arbiter and a good wingman but can not beat it, although this is with standard weapons in survival mode. I also have a lot of draws and wins with it in VS mode.

  26. I've tested this jet against every other fully upgraded one on vs. and won each time. This is the best plane on Metalstorm wingman ever.

    ReplyDelete
  27. On my thoughts having lots of energy in an agility class is a good idea because you can normally dodge the missles but the problem is the energy isnt enough. Having boosts in a defence class is a pretty worthless. Think about it, you've got all this energy to do maneuovers but... The arbiter doesnt have enough evasion to dodge enemy firing. So overall you can do as many maneuovers as you like but all missiles will hit you.

  28. Bad vs plane. Took it into vs and thought I would be invincible but got the opposite. I got killed by an annhilator before I even got to fire a shot.
More recently, I had a hawken and took it into vs against an arbiter. I easily killed him with lancers, and then he surrenders.

  31. I absolutely love this jet. It’s my second defense-class aircraft, and even before I got the good tech-tree upgrades I loved it. I usually get obliterated when I have to fight an F-51 Hawken, but when I had a versus round against one who had around 1900 skill-level, he didn’t hit me with a single missile. The round was a draw, and we had both hit each-other with guns about 3 times.

  36. a great advantage is the twin tail-in the d21 talon, the tail often blocks the cannon crosshair. on the arbiter, there is no tail in the way-just a straight look at the target. however, the thing really needs a good number of upgrades to become effective
