Tips on Avoiding BISNOS
Probably one of the single most difficult things to do in MSWM is avoiding an onslaught of Bisnovat R-40 missiles fired at you from long range. Want to dedicate this posting to see who out there has the best tips to avoid getting killed by Bisnos. I don't have a magic answer (hoping that maybe someone out there does!)
Below are my tips:
1. You want to get close to you opponent FAST so you can engage in a circling match - you will do much better at close range against Bisnos than long range.
2. Go full throttle to get closer to the player - I usually try flying not directly at them however but slightly off-angle, say 30 degrees from directly at them. It seems that if you fly directly at them, the missile will track you all that much better.
3. At the last second, I usually try a hard upwards or downwards maneuver or swipe/roll left/right to avoid getting hit.
4. I've sometimes tried long sweeping or sporadic turns as the missile approaches, but it seems that those don't help that much.
Also - what about cutting against the grain of the missile flight?? What I mean is if the missile is curving towards you, make your roll the opposite direction? I've added the following diagrams to try and describe this - curious as to your thoughts on this approach:
If anyone has any tips, please post. I will also post a poll on the right of the page on banning Bisnos - please vote!

Upward and downwards maneuver does not provide you a high dodging rage.
ReplyDeleteAccelerate as soon as you're going head to head. Part 2 is also okay. The very instant when you hear the 2nd incoming beep, swipe leftward or rightward, and tilt your device at the same time towards the corresponding direction at almost 90degree from original position.
This gives you a 95% successful rate
Decelerate right or left then tilt opposite direction hard and accelerate hard with a swipe in that direction...more successful in agility class...it's a TIMING maneuver so it takes practice ... Just don't let the device FLY out of your hand on the first few attempts.
ReplyDeleteThey should outlaw BISNOs anyway.
MetalStorm: Wingman is a war game, so we should play it accordingly. Thus, your first step before you join the battle is to learn everything about your enemies capabilities. The game makes this easy for you as your opponent is introduced with his Skill Rating, his plane and his weapons. But what if all this is wrong? What if your enemy's equipment is better than stated on this introduction screen? Let's talk about Bisnovats - as this is what this thread is all about!
ReplyDeleteThe Good
Bisnovats are not that damaging as you might think. Their true damage score is lower than advertised in the game's market. There it says the bonus is 100%. But that is not true as its damage score is only 96 compared to the Sidewinder's 60. Hence, the bonus towards damage is 60%.
The Bad
In the market it says the speed bonus is 50%. That's not true either. It's 75%, as the Sidewinder has a value of 20 and the Bisnovat 35. But it should have only 30.
The Ugly
Tracking bonus is 100%. Really? Not even close. Sidewinder's value is 2. Hence, Bisnovats should have 4. But they have 7. That is 250%!
Consider, would you accept fights against people using a weapon that has a Tracking bonus of 250% whereas you think the 8% extra bonus of your Liberty are good - who knows whether the planes' stats are correct? Well, that looks a bit very steep. Too steep to regard the dogfight fair. Far from a level playing field. Usually you would cry foul if your opponent has abilities he shouldn't have. But it would be unfair to call Bisnovat users cheaters as they might not even know about their extra advantage and above all they are not to blame. But what is the strategy now?
Declining the fights would be the logical consequence. But you would decline more often than you play. Switching to Defence Class planes could be an option. Dodging is even more difficult but your armor provides some margin of safety. In the end you can just wait until stats will be set to correct values or the real values are made transparent within the game. A Bisnovat user once in a while is okay but they have become too many.
Well said mate... but you don't tell us what are your tactics to dodge those bastards...
DeleteThe surprising thing is that the only advantage bisnos have over lancers is a bit extra speed but they cost twice as much, and you can earn lancers in the 'winged serpents' mission quite easily
DeleteOh, yes my tactics. First of all, it would be helpfull if everyone could post which plane he uses to perform the maneuvour. I would imagine that an Agility Class plane can dodge far mor easily with its speed bonus.
DeleteMy plane is the F-105 Dragon these days. It's terribly slow and clumsy, well it's an F-14 Tomcat at the end of the day. But it has enough armour to survive the Bisnovat spamming of your opponent. It has enormous energy reserves that allow you to maneuvour a lot and the damaged hull heals itself during the circling afterwards.
My tactics are halfway successfull as I would say I dodge 50% of Bisnovats, sometimes even 100%, sometimes 0%. So, I'm no expert in dodging but I guess the lack of speed of the Dragon is to blame for this as well. So here they are:
1. Pull the airbrakes.
2. Bank left/right until you see the spammer.
(3. If you get a missile lock first fire a timed salvo.)
4. Use the afterburner and race towards your opponent.
5. As soon as you hear the warning sound for incoming missiles dive down sharply while banking to one side sharply and performing a barrel roll in that very same direction.
6. As soon as his second salvo comes in climb sharply and perform the banking and barrel roll maneuvours in the opposite directions.
(7. If you get a missile lock during that maneuvour, fire a double shot at him.)
8. Now the Dragon should have passed the spammer and can lick its wounds, regenerating energy and armor that is.
I hope that helps and maybe it works better in more agile planes.
The problem is, you can't kill someone skilled with the dragon....
DeleteYeah, I find when I come across a very skilful player, the best I can hope for is a draw, especially if they're flying agility. They just won't give you a clean shot, and defense planes are too slow and don't have the tracking bonuses to compete. I essentially need to rely on the guy making a mistake, which the top players rarely do.
DeleteThat said, my worst nightmare is still Red Widows in the hands of a top player armed with Meteors. I find it very hard to dodge with the dragon, and Meteors can blow me outta the sky in 4 or 5 hits. I can't survive in a long range firefight thanks to the RW reload speed, and once I get close in, the RW still has a major advantage cos its much more agile... between a rock and a hard place...

Great advice and tips - thanks to all and keep em coming!
ReplyDeleteMy tip:
ReplyDelete1. Go up at full speed.
2. Go down at full speed slightly off angle from opponent.
3. When missle incoming: maneuver (swipe) inward, tilt towards maneuver direction, and decelerate all simultaneously.
You'll have to time yourself right when to do so though.
4. Repeat step 2 (or 1) then step 3 until you can bring in for circling match.
i would be more interested in learning hwo to dodge Lancers more effectively , i fu*** hate those missiles ....
ReplyDeletelol they are my missiles of choice nowadays, ever since I broke around 10K SR, it's near impossible to hit agility experts with anything else.
DeleteHeindrich1988
One of My Tips: Don't go full speed, use the brakes to slow down as much as you can. Once you see the Bisno getting closer, speed up at an angle. Bisnos can not decelerate and will fly right past you!
ReplyDeleteThe problem I see with slowing down is that you might give him a 2nd or even 3rd shot on you. I want to get past the shooter as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and Red Widows and Hawkens have scary rates of fire, they can get at least 2 salvos on you even if you close in as fast as possible (with defense class at least), so hanging around seems like a bad idea unless you can dodge with 90%+ success rate.
DeleteHeindrich1988
Hmmm... the first tactics I used were similar. Approach the opponent not head on but with a small variance and when the brisnos come, boost and swipe left/right. I've just tested your method and it worked well enough for me in my agility fully upgraded reaper to survive and get into a dogfight :)
ReplyDeleteGlad it worked for you, I use that all of the time. Check out my site for more Tips on Maneuvering your plane in MS.
DeleteThis is off topic, but what have they done to the wartusk? It is now a horse after I updated
ReplyDeleteIt's April Fools and Z2 Live is trying to have some fun I presume everything will change back tommorow. Missile sfx are now horse neighs
DeleteHard part about avoiding coin missiles is avoiding the 2nd set...especially if you're far away.
ReplyDeleteWhen I use my Agility plane, the server usually puts me far away. When I switch to my Weapons plane, it puts me nearby my opponent...grrr...
It would be nice if the server did a better job of leveling the playing field by putting you in a better position after you've been obliterated by 2 missile hits.
If you pilot weapon class plane you can just ignore the threat and rush forward. The idea is to be performing maneur when missile hits you (40% damage reduction is our goal). Most likely only two bisnos will hit you but your opponent will be hit with four missiles and will be exposed to a gunfire for about one and half second. After the moment you fly against each other do a U-turn and kill your opponent. Most bisnovat users can be killed this way pretty easily. Fully upgraded weapon class plane can sustain ap to EIGHT bisnovat hits - you can have three kills for every one your death just bruteforcing your enemy.
ReplyDeletein the article it talked about sporadic turns, and i have always wanted to know the method of swiping to do one of those. can anyone help me?
ReplyDeleteIf it's all about coins it's getting boring you can see 90 percent of them with SR5000+ are hanging Bisnos
ReplyDeleteI've often seen very strange maneuver, it is not rolling, yawing, diving or turn over, it is like 360 degree wide range circling at full speed. Anyone know how to do it?
ReplyDeleteI see it too.... is it when your opponent is turning a direction, continues their direction but during that time, their plane horizontally rotates a full 360 degrees and keeps continuing their direction? I've seen that many times, my missiles go off track, it's unfair and I think it's....LAG!!!
DeleteZ2, how many times do we have to say this? Just fix the flipping lag already and your revenues will double, from people who suddenly like the game more and from people who suddenly need more bisnos because they are now actually capable of missing.
Deleteuse sentinel + vympel = KILL THEM FIRST!
ReplyDeleteGuys, it's simple:
ReplyDeleteProgram_EvadeBisnos V.1
ACCELERATE STRAIGHT TOWARDS THEM, DO NOT DECELERATE!!!
possible_scenarios:
IF>>
//missile coming from left,
[Accelerate towards them, swiftly turn left; maneuver to help]
//missile coming from right,
[Accelerate towards them, swiftly turn right; maneuver to help]
//missile coming from above,
[Accelerate towards them, turn left or right, perform flip maneuver]
//missile coming from below,
[Accelerate towards them, turn left or right, perform cobra maneuver]
This is no guarantee, but it worked for me when timed perfectly.
The Bisnovat R-40 is real
ReplyDeleteI usually don't have trouble with Bisnos in my lightning-fast and hummingbird-agile Reaper, but if the opponent has an extra upgrade for missile tracking or a plane with a tracking bonus, I hit problems. Usually I just try to stay as close as I can to the opponent and hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteAs of the new update, this statement is no longer anywhere close to true. There's just too much lag and the update seems to have boosted the tracking of these weapons even more.
DeleteCool! The only time that this can't work in is when your facing the Hurricane w/R-40's.
ReplyDeleteNah, I found the best way to avoid them is:
Delete1. Accelerate as fast as possible, wait for the enemy missile
2. Turn to 45 degrees angle and do a roll when the missile comes, most of the time it will work
3. If your plane is fast enough, you should past enemy plane after the first round of missile, congratulations, you survived the face off! So begin the dog fight! *Do note that Bis are too OP and it is hard to be 100% sure you won't get hit.
Also, if you have a dragon or green eagle, they are the best against bisnovat, especially dragon. 8% dmg resist and 12% armor really helps, and bis can kill 1/3 of your when both hit you. (or 1/2 of your health when critical strike) This give your a lot of time to regenerate armor and face off again.
DeleteBisnos and Lancers are impossible to avoid with the lag I experience (even if they do fly past my wings, they just do the stupid blow-up-miles-away crap and destroy me anyway. I just quit as soon as I see bisnos or lancers in Versus mode. Call me a noob, but I'm fed up with these overpowered weapons. If you want to come at me with Meteors, Vympels, Credit missiles, or any type of cannon, I'm game, but don't be a Bisno-noob or I suddenly lose respect for you as a pilot.
ReplyDeleteI've had a pretty good rate of dodging against bisnoobvat and the Lancers with my Agility planes, but it's the second set that kill me when I'm too far away.
ReplyDeleteIt all depends on the terrain. If it's the sea, I go full speed (gonna try a mix of Decel and Accel if they ever fix the update) while I skim the water with an extremely slight turn, tilt up, and swipe left. However, sometimes there's a second set already halfway to me.
If it's mountainous, I skim the other side of a mountain and listen to them spam their missiles.
THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM FELLOW DRAGON PILOT AVEN.
ReplyDeleteThis is getting crazy. Some people hate defense class planes and really take it out on people who use them. But, if you didn't have Defense class planes, you would be stuck getting blown up 100000000000 times!!!! This message applies to everyone out there. FUCKING BITCHES THAT USE BISNOS SHOULD JUST STOP WHINING AND LIVE WITH IT!!!! PEOPLE BUY DEFENSE CLASS PLANES TO PUT THEM ON THE SAME LEVEL WITH THE NOOB SPAMMERS!!!! IDIOTS LIKE SV STANLEY SHOULD STOP THE SERIOUS FUCKING WHINING UNTIL MY SKILL RATING IS REALLY ABOVE 10000!!!!
TL;DR (Too Loud, Didn't Read)
DeleteI just got my skill rating over 3000 and now auto match is pairing me up with people who have skill rating 20000 and above. Sheesh i thought auto match was supposed to find fair matches. And about 3 out of every 4 people i play have bisnos and zeus/hades cannons. Any body got any flying tips or whatnot on how to perform better. I'm losing about every game now. I fly the sky demon almost fully maxed which I got without purchasing any coins or hacking :). And by the way metal storm forever I love your blog very helpful.
ReplyDeleteI hate to suggest this, but if you go to "invite friend" and then select automatch as your 'friend' (meaning you just press start game without selecting a friend), it'll put you with a completely random player, which is very often a complete noob. If the stupidity of MSWM's automatch gets you, switch to GC and take it out on new players!
DeleteExcept, don't. Because that's mean.
Honestly they should nerf bisnos it's gettin out of control I just played 12 straight matches with bisno users
