You get what you pay for (in both cases)

Well the big give-away has happened - for this weekend only you can buy the Apollo for the price of 1 credit -------- which is about what it is worth.  A disappointing downgrade from the leaked version and not worthy of a review.  I don't think that it is a good strategy on Z2's part to build expectations and then provide this piece of junk (no upgrades included either).  I think that I'll just stick with the C-101 Annhiliator when I want to fly a low level agility plane - not going to invest a penny to upgrade this thing.

BC-13 Apollo

The second plane released this weekend is the Hades.  A new weapons class plane with slightly higher boosts in energy and damage than the leaked version.  It is good to see the SR-71 Blackbird incarnated one more time.  The first time this was issued was as the Achillies as an overpriced defense class plane with lackluster specs.  This time, Z2 has more accurately provided the plane with great speed and stealth.

D-66 Hades
The Blackbird was one of the most amazing planes ever built.  A reconnaissance plane with no weapons, it was one of the fastest jets ever made.  Able to go mach 3+ at 80,000 feet, it was able to go so fast and so high that no missiles could catch it.  For quite awhile, the Blackbird was able to fly just about anywhere it wanted without fear of getting shot down.

Lets take a look at the ratings for the Hades:

Energy:  12% boost is middle of the pack - not a big factor for weapons class which has plenty of energy already as default.
Damage:14% boost is also middle of the pack but decent.
Speed:  20% boost is best in class (but still slower than agility class planes)
Stealth:  15% boost is best in class (but still less than a few defense class planes)

No agility boost will make it easier to be caught in a circling match, but overall, the speed, stealth and damage boosts make the Hades a formidable weapons class plane - the speed should help dodge incoming missiles and the stealth will make it harder for your opponent to lock onto you as you kick in the afterburners.  Its also hard to resist the design of this historical classic!

Beautiful shot of a real life SR-71 Blackbird

Both planes have been added to the Comparison Guide  and also to the Fleet at a Glance - check it out!

  1. Totally agree Lug. As I mentioned before a very disappointed plane the Apollo, so much expectation for nothing but honestly I was expecting something like that.
BTW, thanks Lug for your effort in putting all this site together.
    Cheers

  2. Apollo is a joke. What were they thinking?

Hades is actually a pretty respectable plane. Mine is fully upgraded and I've done a few videos with it, if anyone is interested. Here's a link to one of the videos: http://youtu.be/jssrXtObzWE

    1. Thanks for sharing the video, Brad. It confirmed my expectation, that the Hades silhouette covers a significant part of the screen in certain manoeuvres, e.g. in climbing turns. I will stay with the Hawken.

  3. Hades is annoyingly almost identical to Aurora, effectively beating the R-19 as the best bull-runner in game with equal energy, slightly superior speed + firepower while trading off the near-useless (in vs) regen for stealth.

BC-13 Apollo = Bull Crap + Failed lunar mission

  4. Well done Z2 there was the Overpowered SD and now even more overpowered Hades. Guys this plane with Bisnos can beat any agility class. The most ideal Backflipping plane! Then there's D-113 Eae and Dragon another 2 OP defence class planes at least make OP agility class planes.
    F/A-37 Talon
    Stats
    +14% Agility
    +15% Speed
    +9% Evasion
    +16% Stralth

    Or the F-26
    Stats
    +18% Agility
    +12% Speed
    +5% Energy
    +3% Armour Regen

The F-26 isn't really OP but anyways. +5 energy sucks and armour Regen is useless on agility class. +12 speed isn't OP and 18 agility is only 3% above all agility class

    1. Do you find any fun using bisnos? I don't , I personally think that any player using bisnos has no skills or what so ever. I prefer to use raams and agile planes. For sure many people think that they are unbeatable using bisnos but just to get the points? What's the point then?

    2. LOL, did you just try to take planes from SGAS and try to have them put into Metalstorm? How original.....

    3. I hate Bitch-novat users they can't beat agility class so they use them. Whole point of not able to Outturn isn't it? If they don't like it switch to agility class and see how Op it is well it isn't. Firstly there's a very damn easy trick to beat agility class planes using Stock and without speeding! The 3/9 o'clock trick when you go to the sides and spin and braking and try to get non lock straight shots when agility plane swoops across screen. You need to be fast in reflex and you'll be shooting those agility class planes down not all this BS Backflipping with Bisnos.

  5. Ran into a few Hades this week end. I really felt the extra stealth noticeable. In my mind, extra speed is also a powerful feature. Damage is very correct but extra energy is not that useful. Overall they did a good job by creating a new top plane with strong identity and characteristics that radically differ from other planes. Overpowered? I don't think so. It might be deadly with Bisnos, but I'm telling you that a Sentinel with Bisnos is deadly too. I still prefer the Sky Daemon (my current plane of choice) and the Red Widow among weapon planes. But I would understand some folks that may say that Hades is their favorite one. As always, they re are several excellent planes in each category, which one is actually the best is a question with no answer.
Anyway, thank you Zi2 for making more variety in the game, just keep on.

  7. The Apollo looks cool, but it performs horribly! Looks are deceiving aren't they. When I flew the Apollo, I noticed immediately that it had very low performance. It was very slow, especially in turning, (wow agility) and I am very disappointed. Still, 1 credit is a historic price, for a historically stupid plane! Why ruin a nice skin on terrible stats! Do that on some stupid looking Mig, not an F22!

    1. I agree. The BC-13 Apollo actually looks more descent than its sibling the F-106 Thresher. But with these stats only noobs will use it.

Would have loved to take my P-79 Spectre out of the hangar and verse an Apollo with proper stats (Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor against Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA).

    2. The one credit price for the Apollo fit my budget perfectly so I bought it and upgraded it solely with green coins to see what I might do with it. Took it into Survival Mode with Standard Issue weapons and got it to Level 11 which was better than I expected. (granted, I'm not the best player...I've only gotten to Level 17 with a fully upgraded Sparrow and a Red Widow using Standard Issue weapons) Apollo does turn like a boat but there seem to be aggressive agility upgrades. I'm kindof curious how this plane behaves with a full upgrade (any upgrade chestnuts?) but hesitant to spend the coin.

  8. So, what happen to the "hades?" It's NO LONGER in my hangar -- replaced by the "aurora" WTF Z2??? Does anybody know what the fuck is going on? Even the new "free"Apollo is missing from my hanger too! So were these planes just for the weekend or what??

  9. Yup, they were only for the weekend... Didn't you see the clock ticking? Now wait for the re-release, good luck.

    1. So anniversary present, they made you waste tons of coins for a couple of day plane. They're evil now. Play SGAS!
