FA-92 Odyssey - Released Version |
Earlier Leaked version of FA-92 Odyssey for comparison |
We finally have the last of the "leaked" planes released. The FA-92 Odyssey has officially been released! Based on the AV-8B Harrier, it is nice to see a new design show up after the many repainted versions of the Hawken and other redos. The Odyssey has decent stealth at +8%, with only the Juggernaut and Arbiter edging it out both at +10%. Here is a surprise - a defense class plane with increased damage! This will be the first defense class plane in the fleet with an upper for damage at +5%. This will make the Odyssey better for damage than any agility class planes and in the ballpark of weapons class plane damage. As for Missile Resistance - WAZUP with the "#stats.damageReduction" - somebody didn't double check their coding - pretty lame Z2! Anyway, this is Missile Resistance, which is a unique characteristic only for defense class planes. At +10%, the Odyssey now easily becomes BEST IN FLEET for missile resistance. Of note, Z2 must have thought that the Odyssey needed a little boost, as you see in the figures, the leaked version only had +5% missile resistance. Armor is also very good at +12% which is second in fleet only to the Juggernaut. Overall a pretty impressive defense class plane. At 180 coins, its not too badly priced, but you know me, I'm a bit of a cheapskate so I will stick with my Arbiter, but the missile resistance is pretty interesting for the Odyssey..

If you delete metalstorm then reinstall it the statsdmg reduction will go away
ReplyDeleteWhats ur favorite plane?
ReplyDeleteThe j-35 dynasty is the best. The agility is pretty nice, though yeah, speed wise, it's not very fast. For that reason, even a fully upgraded j-35 dynasty is quite easily blown up when facing a hurricane with bitchnovats(bisnovates). However, the cannon damage and overheat limit makes up for it. ... Once in a dogfight, it's unbeatable! If you know what you're doing, and you have raams, expect to dominate the skies once and for all- more kills (and slightly more losses) than most other agility class aircraft of this price. In a dogfight, no hawken can beat this communist beauty whether it has bitchnovats or not.
DeleteDifferent anonymous said the dynasty I say the thresher
DeleteThe dynasty anonymous is not me the thresher is me
DeleteThe iorn fang is best! If you get a chance to buy it get it, nothing can outperform it, it is so fast, so good at turning, and great at dodging to, plus it looks cool
DeleteO yeah, I beat a j-35 Dyanasty having a Hawken fully upgraded with only RAMS and a standard machine gun. Also, I beat the Fynasty by 5-1 with me winning. In my opinion a Hawken would whop a Dynasty any day.
DeleteThe Oddesey just re-released today for 180 coins. I am wondering how it will be. I personally am not going to buy it. I'm waiting for them to re-release the green eagle again. Hey can someone tell me how much it costs for the green eagle isn't it the same as the f113 eagle? Just curious. Please reply.
DeleteIt used to cost 300 coins, but after the the Achilles at 390, I wouldn't be surprised if, if they will release it again, it will cost 500 coins... I would probably buy it again.
Deleteanyway* not again, lol.
DeleteI played an odyssey yesterday. I had stock weapons on a reaper...couldn't get a kill even though I was nailing it pretty good. We drew.
ReplyDeleteIt was also pretty darn hard to catch as it was bobbing and weaving quite quickly.
DeleteDoes anybody know what's the plane they're going to release for the coming weeks?
ReplyDeleteThey said on the official Website that the next will be the Zephyr (re-issued). And then? I keep my fingers crossed and hope to have an opportunity to buy the Red Widow... who knows.
Delete??????where on the official website does it say the next plane of the week is the zephyr???? I looked all over the website and could not find a section that tells the next plane of the week... Please rely with the link if possible ... But be warned, the copy and paste function does not work on the iPad, so you need to reply either on the computer, or copy down the link by hand and enter it in the comment box. Thank you...
Deletehttp://metalstormwingman.com/forums/topic/upcoming-planes-announcements/
DeleteIs it OK for you?
I don't find that forum (those on the official website) so exciting, although you may pick some valuable informations like this one. The guy claims that he does not know which plane will come after the Zehpyr yet.
That comment on the official site about the zephyr being next was posted ages ago!(February, I think).
DeleteDoes it have any armor regeneration?
ReplyDeleteYes, but no more than other defense planes without extra armor regen. I am not very excited with this plane, because I already ran into it in versus games (with two different guys close to my level) and I was able to blow them out relatively easily with my Sentinel and RAAMs. However, it is still possible that they were not really upgraded.
DeleteI'm guessing the coming limited edition planes will be in the order of: s-03 Marauder, Liberty, Mako, Dragon... Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, this has nothing to do with what's above, but if the s-03 marauder is really next, is it worth buying? I'm thinking that the evasion might help me surviving against bisnovats, though with no extra energy, still not very attractive
ReplyDeleteNot sure it is so predictable. I don't know the Z2 strategy, but one can hope that they will take into account the fact that some planes are more popular and awaited by players than others. Eventually, their goal is to get people to spend coins and buy (attractive) planes.. I may be wrong but I think that there would be more eager people for buying the Dragon than the Marauder for example. However, I must be a bit too much optimistic given the number of relatevely boring planes they made recently available.
DeleteShould I buy this plane or the M11 Raven? Please reply!
ReplyDeleteRaven is better.
Deletehow do you swipe to preform a sporadic turn? please reply!!!
ReplyDeleteYou can only swipe to roll, do a backflip, or turn your plane directly upwards (swipe upwards).
DeleteSwipe upwards manuver is called "Cobra".
DeleteIs stealth really useful? Just wondering because I played an Arbiter today and had no trouble locking on and taking him out. In all fairness we restarted fairly close each time in that match.
ReplyDeleteIn the real wold, stealth technology reduces radar cross section to be less visible for the opponents radar.
DeleteIn MSW however, I had opponents who got a radar lock on my fully upgraded Arbiter (stealth rating +30%) just seconds after the match has started and when they were still far away. Thus, there sometimes seems to be no difference to my fully upgraded Hawken (stealth rating +9%).
Thus, the question is: How does the stealth feature work?
And subsequently: Which factors determine the radar signature in MSW? Which tactics are recommended to exploit the superior stealth rating of a Defence plane in versus mode?
I have placed these question in the "Developer Q&A" forum on the official MSW homepage and hope they will answer it in the Developer Q&A video Z2 wants to come up with [Now in Review].
@MetalStorm Forever
ReplyDeleteI'd like to explain the definition of Missile Resist and DMG Reduction. THEY"RE NOT THE SAME!!!
I have explained some common mistakes in reading the stats here, so take some time to read it. Thank you. This goes to ALL OTHER READERS.
https://getsatisfaction.com/z2live/topics/attention_definition_of_common_incorrectly_interpreted_bonus_properties_and_others
I haven't reinstalled the game like the first comment suggested so I'm still seeing "stats.damageReduction". Does this become DMG Reduction when corrected?
DeleteAlso, does the DMG Reduction stat simply sum up with the "Damage reduction vs Missiles/Cannon" bonuses from the tech tree? Or do they multiply, e.g. +10% DMG Reduction & +20% DMG Reduction vs Missiles = 1.1 * 1.2 = +32% total DMG Reduction vs Missiles?
Lastly, how did you figure out the formulae? I initially thought 6% Damage against 6% DMG Reduction would result in 99.64% damage (1.0*1.06*0.94), 30% Lock Speed vs 30% Stealth = 91% effective Lock Speed, etc. Seems odd that they'd sum the bonuses with those of the opponent's as penalties, though this is purely observation based on the game mechanics of other games I've played and I'm not familiar with MSW's.
@MetalStorm Forever!
DeleteYou may want to update your Defense planes comparison table and change the Missile Resistance label.
Also, there's a typo on the Odyssey's link in your Table of Contents to the right.
According to Z2 live's explaination, all stats given in shop is multiplied directly, while upgrades in tech tree are multiplied after addition. For example, Hawken has +12% damage. Suppose sidewinders deals 60 damage per hit, and suppose you have 2 upgrades in the tree saying "+5% damage" and "+6% damage" some-2-places in the tree, the sidewinder fired from your hawken will deal a total of
Delete60*(1+12%)*(1+5%+6%)
=60*(1.12)*(1.11)
However, according to player's experiences, it seems that stats are cancelled out first before multiplying. For example, defender has damage reduction +5%, and attacker has damage +6%, and each hit from the attacker deals 60 damage. From what we see, is that the damage dealt towards the defender is approximately equal to 60*(1+6%-5%) = 60*(1.01)
DeleteAnd, BTW, I suggest you add a new post explaining all the meaning of stats. If you need some other advices, I'll be happy to help :)
ReplyDeleteThanks 涼宮ハルヒ, great idea! I will try to post a table this week. Look forward to your wisdom and help! :-)
DeleteNah. I'll be the one looking forward to seeing your post :)
ReplyDeleteI'm getting fed up with that game. Not sure the last update making that you are supposed to play against players with SR similar to yours was a good idea from Zi2. I am currently 4k and end up playing 90% of my games against opponents several k over me, often 10k or more. To top it off, most guys play with coins missiles. That's pretty hard to win when you play a guy powered with Hawken + bisno or stuff like this. One funny and attractive thing in that game is the possibily to pick some new planes and upgrade them, and also to discuss with other folks about the plane you prefer and why. In fact, it is (almost) all about missiles. What does a +10% or even +14% in damage (eg Sentinel, my plane of choice vs a very basic weapon plane) when you have RAAMS while the other guys has Bisnos (+70% damage in his favor)? And I m not talking about the fact that these f...ing missiles are almost impossible to escape. That sucks, actually. I have now more than 300 coins and I m saving for the next plane that will really draw my eye... In fact, I should rather buy a bunch of bisnos and do like so many do... Sorry, that is not fair play from me and I know that some people are really great (much more than me) and that they would probably able to kick the ass of many Bisnos guys. Anyway, my win/loss rate is very poor those last times and I am not very happy with that.
ReplyDeleteCurious to know if other share my opinion and run into the same issues.
Another thing, is it possible that your plane gets stronger when you reach higher SR? Sometimes, when playing against 10-30k, it seems like they are able to accelerate and be much faster than usual, allowing to evade easily. It may also happen that it looks like they would be more resistant or causing more damage? Maybe this just reflects their ability (or my inability:-( ) but it dawned on me that someone reported the same thing in one discussion.
To illustrate what I said : I checked the planes comparison guide: the difference in missile damage between the plane with highest damage (Sentinel 37%) and those with lowest (Annihilator 9%) is actually 28%. The difference between RAAMs (the most credit missiles used, +30% damage) and Bisnos or Vympels (+100%) is 70%. Or maybe there is something I have not understood? I never realized this before and I think it's a non sense.
DeleteIn order to protest, I will not play versus games for one week (serious!). That's the first MSWM-strike, it's a moment of history. Hope they will not crush me like the Markowian rebellion.
Whaat?? A plane fires my house!!!!!! AAAARRRGH..... ("Ah ah, see him burn" Copperhead laughs after blowing me up).
(Sorry for that delirium moment)
According to Z2live, their bracketing system stops at 3000 SR. That is, for example, brackets restrain players within 0-499, 500-999, 1000-1499.... something similar will end with the last bracket 3000~. This means that after reaching 3000 SR,you will meet up with players of 5/6 digit SRs. They promised to further increase the brackets in the next update
DeleteI totally agree with you, Kid. I have given up Versus Mode all together. I play Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy most of the time now and drop by in MetalStorm: Wingman once in a while to play the other two game modes. And, let's face it, Survival Mode is so much better in the end. Think of it: no Pi$$novat missiles, no weird matching with players several times your own skill rating, no annoying second account users and no irritating friend requests from strange people.
DeleteI wait for the Z2Live guys coming up with a new version, that is not 4.0.x but 5.0. Maybe things will improve one day. Until that day I do the Tapjoy stuff once in a while and collect some coins that way. But, honestly, consider Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy. It's great.
I just got Sky Gamblers. It is much harder to play! I have not mastered getting planes off your tail at all. My SR is not much over 1100 so I'm not having the problems you guys are yet.
DeleteIt's abit sad for those who just got this one since the dragon is back here again. And no new planes. Now there's more dragon vs dragon in the sky...may be they should release a half an hour fight model for this.
DeleteWill this plane be availed again
DeleteFor my part, I think it's an A-6 Intruder
ReplyDeleteIt's back, for 180 coins, and in the place the dynasty used to be, back for good!
ReplyDeleteThe introduction of the Harrier jet into this game brings an interesting idea to mind: Wouldn't it be cool if you could get a "Vertical Thrusters" Tech Upgrade that would REDUCE your MINIMUM speed (the speed you get when you press the down-arrow)? That would be invaluable to Agility pilots and would definitely come in handy during Campaign missions, particularly the last one where you have to escort all those slow tanks in your lightning-fast jet aircraft.
ReplyDeleteany word on when this plane will be re-released?
