The Wobblin' Goblin is Re-Released

WM-10 Striker
Alas, a long time favorite of many fighter fans has finally been added to the MSWM lineup.  The WM-10 Striker is modeled after the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter, nicknamed the Wobblin' Goblin in its early years due to flight control stability issues.

Lets take a look at the stats:

Damage +12%:  This is Best in Class for Damage, overtaking the Sparrow by 2% and similar to the Sparrow, is comparable to lesser weapons class planes in the damage category.

Agility +13%:  In the middle of the pack, but only 2% behind Reaper and Stilletto which are both tops in fleet for agility.

Speed +12%:  Tied with 3 other planes for second in class behind Reaper which edges it out by 1%.

Armor +7%:  2nd in class behind Wasp and one of the few agility class planes to have armor upgrades.

Overall, once again, Z2 has pushed the envelope and produced a top agility class plane that is one of the best in class.  Identical boost categories as the Reaper (which has been my favorite agility class plane), the Striker is slightly behind Reaper in agility and speed, but packs more damage and has better armor than Reaper.  I think that I still like Reaper better since I value speed and agility the most for an agility class plane, but the Striker is a great plane also and has considerable more style than the boring F-4 based Reaper skin.  A great new addition to the fleet, although kinda funny that the stealth fighter has no stealth.

The Striker has been added to the Comparison Guide  and also to the Fleet at a Glance - check it out!

The Striker is based on the real-life F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter.

  1. They added it as an Agility class? Seriously? This is worse than the Achilles. The F-117 was not a great flier, being rather unmaneuverable and also subsonic. I mean, it's a nice plane as far as stats go, but still... would have been nice to have some more accuracy in terms of what the RL counterpart is actually like. Jeez, Z2.

    1. These are business driven decisions. The F-117 Nighthawk airframe is thought after for a long time by MS:W players and I guess Agility is the best selling class. Thus, maximum sales of the striker can be expected in Agility and not in Defencese a.k.a. the Stealth class.

A chance was missed again (like with Achilles, Nightwing) to introduce a fighter which really concentrates on (superior) stealth and so adds more variation on gameplay. Instead, we get another variation of the Reaper/Spectre bunch.

I happily stay with my Spectre!

    2. Well, if they were more accurate, the Nighthawk might not even be in MS:WM since it was actually a bomber, not a fighter, thus probably couldn't attack aircraft.

    1. amazing plane. I versed it with both a Wraith, and a Dragon. It beat my wraith 1-0, and tied my dragon.

I was useing standard issue, and they were useing RAAM's + Valkyrie. I would buy if I were an agility class person.

  4. I am out of funds to get this aircraft... I would get it if I could, though. Even though this things agility is inferior to the reapers, I believe it is still lethal. Not to mention stunning looks...

However, I just wish that Z2 would have made this aircraft with energy instead of speed... Just my personal preference... Agility class always is low on energy... -___-

  5. Kinda funny that it's a fighter at all considering the F-117 Nighthawk "stealth fighter" is actually a bomber.

However, it sure looks bad ass and performs quite well in cyberspace as a fighter!

  6. I was THRILLED when I saw this as the new featured plane. I was highly impressed with its stats. It suits my flying style better than the Reaper does. Sure, it has lower agility and speed than the Reaper, but I value damage (I have scored in versus often with only 2 RAAMs and some Valkyrie spraying) and armor (ever so valuable for agility class). I would take this hotshot out for a match any day (no offence to Reaper fans).

  7. Just versed my first Striker.
    Opponent: WM-10 Striker sporting Vodoo/Bisnovat.
    Me: KD-90 Sphynx sporting Vodoo/RAAM.
The match ended 2:1 in my favour. ;-)

  8. Just got and upgrade this plane: Real Beast, I think in the hands of a skilled pilot this is the best plane due to its high damage (I feel it).
Agility is ok, 1/2% is nothing IMO because with Reaper or Spectre I can't even outmanuver Iron Fangs, although their 14/15% more agility.
Speed is good too, since I almost never get hit at long range,
I still have to notice if armor is feelable.
The F-117 Nighthawk is my favorite plane (if I don't count the F-19, which is probably only a myth).
I have this plane in SGAS too but it has blazing afterburners there so I don't know which one is better-made; probably after reading Michael's comment on the previous post, this is the closer one, I'll make some research.

      Nice stats though!

    3. It is made well, it really doesn't have flames, Z2 have made a sharp job.

    4. Turbofan engines, like turbojet engines, create flames, but just in the core. When you accelerate though, on most fighter jets, you'll notice the flames become larger- this is because of the afterburners...

      Delete
    5. I might be wrong, but I don't think the RL F-117 had afterburners... It was a strictly subsonic aircraft with a top speed of about 617 MPH.

      Delete
    6. "The F-117 is shaped to deflect radar signals and is about the size of an F-15 Eagle. The single-seat Nighthawk is powered by two non-afterburning General Electric F404 turbofan engines..." --Wikipedia article about the F-117

    7. "The F-117 Nighthawk has a radar signature of about 0.025 m2 (0.269 sq ft).[32] Among the penalties for stealth are lower engine power thrust, due to losses in the inlet and outlet, a very low wing aspect ratio, and a high sweep angle (50°) needed to deflect incoming radar waves to the sides.[33] With these design considerations and no afterburner, the F-117 is limited to subsonic speeds."

  9. Hi guys,

maybe off topic but here goes: Im fairly new to the game and i really liked it untill...my skill rating went above 3000 (im now at 4400 and doubting to quit the game). I dont like flying guys with SR over 150K and fly for 2 seconds(or less) and get blown out of the sky over and over. What fun...not. Why does z2 dont match it a bit more fair between pilots??? That aint rocketscience z2!! Instead of releasing a lot of kickass planes they should take a good look at the game code. I dont want to play hacked thats no fun in my opinion. I could but I wont. Im still trying to learn the game fairly and thats impossible with this system...same for the weapon matching... standard vs bisnos...lol what a joke. Plus the "new" opponent button is completely BS! I keep facing the same pilots over and over. Does anyone have the same experience? Great blog (and submitters) btw. Keep up the good work guys. You are all beating the official site. lol thats so funny ;) Z2 should listen more to dedicated players and get their heads out of their A....

    1. Yup, I agree 100%. My SR just went over 3000 and most of the time, I get matched with opponents with much, much higher SR than me. And, to add insult to injury, the opponent with the higher SR ends up getting spawned right behind me so that as soon as I flip backwards, I'm staring at missiles shot straight at my face. No fun at all!!! :o(

    2. If you are in difficult playing with automatch, go to play --> versus mode --> invite friend --> play now. This way you will mostly find unskilled players to try new tacticts without the fear of getting killed after two seconds, and sometimes you'll meet skilled players that don't use coin missiles. Don't expect to become an ace quickly this way, but in a lot of time you'll accumulate enough experience to begin fighting in Automatch.
Otherwise you can buy bisnos and zeus once and then hack them to become infinite, so every time you feel frustrated of getting pwned by coin missile users you'll be able to give them a nice payback. I made this and I learnt to dodge high tracking missiles at long range 85% of the times (with agility class, 30% with Weapons and defense) in about 4 days (I was already more skilled than you so you'll probably take more) and now I am slowly switching back to credit missiles.
WHEN I MEET ONLY COIN MISSILES USERS, I use coin missiles, so it is a non-frustrating fair match, if I meet some players using credits or stocks I switch to credit missiles.
Don't think I am a cheater or a coin missiles n00b, I just did it to improve my skill and it worked perfectly.

    3. Welcome to Z2's world. It's called greed (or some say capitalism).

They want you to spend your money on buying a 'better' plane and arming it with bitchnovats and voodoos. Just so you can keep up with the mega SR players. They keep you under 3K SR just long enough for you to get hooked.

As for fixing the code...until we STOP playing the game, why would they? It's not going to make them any money to have their developers spend time on something that isn't going to produce revenue. They see it as wasted money.

If you read the older blogs, you'll see the same complaints you are having.

If you decide to keep playing, read up on avoiding missiles (see the links on right) and don't upgrade your missiles. You'll get better with stock weapons, even if you lose a lot.

    4. THANX guys for the replies!!! Much appreciated

    5. Not all pilots useing Bisnos are any good. I fought a F-105 (my favorite plane, next to the F-7) that had Bitchnovats+Zeus, I had my wraith with RAAMs+Valkyrie, and the guy quit because I kept hitting him, and he didn't have a chance to fire a single missile. i ran out of credit missiles midgame, and was pounding him with standard issue.

Verdict: most 'turtle' pilots are bitchno spammers, but a few of us, (me included :-) ) use credit/standard issue weapons.
And are therefore not to be despised, or taken lightly of.

Who goes to Holland? it's just a below sea level, EU county, ruled by the richest woman on the planet, and constantly in threat of flooding.

    6. From my experience Z2 does matching like that to make sure there are always players available to match. Someone on the Facebook group had the brackets for SR up once before. When I do new opponent I very often get a new one. However when there is a low amount of people queued up, your chances to be matched with the same person are higher. I've done network programming before and people never seem to understand how complex it is to get GOOD matches consistently. From what I've played (~4500 SR) Z2 does a pretty good job at keeping the matches stable.

Don't take this personally, for the most part I just get sick of seeing so many gamers complain about things that are truly a balancing act with networking. Gamers have been taught a lot of keyword but few have the understanding of the complexities of network programming and creating systems that will have low chances to create bad matches.

TL;DR People complain wait to much about what is actually very difficult. The more restrictions you ask for in terms of match ups, the longer you would have to wait for a match.

      Delete
    7. "...for the most part I just get sick of seeing so many gamers complain about things that are truly a balancing act with networking" ???

your life must be tough lol

      Delete
    8. I agree that game programing is difficult (work in the software biz). But we don't know for sure that Z2 has spent the time/money to improve that portion of the code and it could go either way...

I think that a lot of complaining could be avoided if they displayed how many players were available at the time you clicked on the 'New Opponent' button.

And not just the number of players logged in...but how about a tally of the players in your bracket and how many are available to play you.

And if they ever decided to add filters, you would know how these filters affected the # available for you to play against, because you would see the # decrease as you added filters.

HOWEVER, we, as the consumer have the right to complain if we find it unsatisfactory...this is how things get done in Corp. America!

  10. I have 299 coins and I'm an Agility plane fan (Maurader/Reaper = favorites)...My debate is:

    1) I accidentally bought the KD-90 Sphynx (pop-up & lag). It's stats are good, but I'm not sure I'll like it in VS, even after upgrading it.

    2) I can buy the badass looking Striker, but I wouldn't have enough to upgrade it.

So I don't know if I should go ahead and buy the Striker and wait to upgrade it? Or if I should just upgrade the Sphynx and wait for the Striker re-release?

I usually fly the Reaper and take the Maurader out often. I use stock weapons and occasionally arm RAAMs when I consistently play blue-coin spammers. I also tend to run out of Energy, but I've learned to cope and find ways around this.

    2. This is cyberspace not airspace. When Z2 givse old airframes top stats just look at it as some kind of "pimp my ride" thing. This also works when they turn bombers or reconnaissance aircraft into fighters as it is with Sky Demon, Striker, Achilles.

But it is really disappointing to see prime stealthy airframes flying around in the MS:W skies without any stealth (Sky Demon, Striker) or to find an airframe with straight wings in the supersonic Agility Class.

Though, I am optimistic, that Z2 will at least fix one of the main glitches:

I was consistantly outmaneuvering him, and slamming him. I almost killed him twice, but ran out of time. Just goes to show the deadly potential of the humble lil wraith.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agility, provided you know how to use it. Otherwise weapon class planes with an agility bonus are VERY difficult to counter.

Technically any class of plane will work, although defense class are notorious for being easy prey. Agility class are favored if you know how to dodge missile shots and get in close.

      Delete
    2. depends totally on ones fighty style. I personally use weapons class (just for the damage) and i don't have much experience with agility.

some people use agility class to great ends, but i just cant get over the lack of ability to absorb punishment. For the record, defense class get an unnecissary bag rap, but in reality are great planes. If you're serious about playing, buy the F-105 Dragon next time it comes out. It only costs 54000 credits :-)

I just survived a match with the striker in my F-105, so in foresight, it's a good investment. But hey, thats just my opinion. if anyone dissagrees, (which I'm sure many of you will) please comment. I want feedback just as much as the other guy.

I do agree that I use flawed logic; Everyone has the right to use any weapon that they see fit to use. It's just that it seems that upgrades are way different from weapons. Most people buy the same upgrades, so that area of the game is more equal.

besides, all planes are different. All weapons are the same. A bitchnovat is a Bitchnovat. All that matters is what plane your useing. A weapons class will take advantage of the +100 damage.

It has 2% less agility than the Reaper, does that make that much of a difference?

I already have the Reaper, so I've passed on the Spectre, but do like it's energy bank.

  27. Many people think that the Reaper is the king in Agility class. Are you sure the Spectre is superior to it?

    1. When it comes to reaper vs spectre, the spectre would mostly likely win in my opinion mainly because more energy allows you to outmaneuver your opponent and helps you dodge more missiles with the extra energy.

    2. So the king of the agile planes is?

      Delete
    3. There is no king.
And the Spectre would not most likely win. Different flying styles need different amounts of energy. The Spectre is larger thus being more vulnerable. It all depends on the pilot. All the other stuff gives slight advantages.
