MSWM vs SGAS: 6 months later

Sky Gamblers Air Supremacy has been around for a little over 6 months.  I was curious to see how successful they have been vs. our favorite MSWM.  Here is what I found:  MSWM currently has 8,344,646 players who have downloaded the game as you can see from the leaderboard screen.

Thatsa Lotta Players

Of course, since MSWM is a free download, there are undoubtedly many inactive players.  So is SGAS catching up with MSWM?    First of all, SGAS cost money, so there will obviously be less downloads, but lets see where they stand.  Of all the game modes on SGAS, I don't usually play capture the flag and the few times that I have, I've almost never actually returned a flag.  However, even with this minimal use, I am ranked #26,328.  This leads me to believe that SGAS has somewhere between 30,000 to maybe 50,000 players at the most.
Thatsa Notta Lotta Players

8 million to 50,000 is probably not the ratio that Bandai/Namco/Revo is hoping for!  50,000 players each paying $5 = $250k.    Apple probably gets $50k or so, which leaves poor Bandai/Namco/Revo to split the remaining $200k amongst themselves.  Doesn't sound very profitable.  You can buy planes on SGAS too, but its not as compulsive as on MSWM.  As for the App Store, I can't even find SGAS on the charts for profitability ranking.  My guess is that the cost of development and server maintenance is not being covered by any stretch.  This may be a reason why they have recently lowered the price of SGAS from $4.99 to $2.99 to try and attract more players.

In summary, even though SGAS is an impressive game, it still has a long way to go to topple MSWM.

  7. Should I get the red widow? Or should I just save up my blue coins for another plane in the future. I already have the hawken, but I don't know if there be a big difference from RW.

    1. Wrong, you're probably just to cheap to pay $3 for the game.
      But I respect your opinion.

    2. Yes, plenty of people care about SGAS, myself definitely included. As someone said in a different comment thread, you're paying the 3 bucks for an actual game instead of a swindling program disguised as a game.
If you actually think you like MSWM somehow, more power to you, but just because you don't care about SGAS doesn't mean no one does.

    3. Should I get the tx-66 rattler? It looks sick but the stats look less promising. And there is no trace of it anywhere on the web

  10. New plane:

    - R-19 Aurora, based on Mig 31, cost 205 coins
    Damage 10%
    Speed 15%
    Armor Regen 3%
    Energy 11%

    - TX-66 Rattler, based on J20, skin winner, no cost information.

However, no other information at the moment, only name for Aurora and Rattler, and stats of Aurora. Perhaps in the next update we'll get more info.

    1. Hello. I know once that a developer said that no more planes would have Armor Regeneration. So I'm not so sure about the Aurora. WHat class is it?

    2. no matter which class, 3% armor regen isn't much, not even enough to survive stock weapons.

    3. I'd love to see at least that 3% armor regen on weapon class planes.. it means a lot!

  13. On game center, I'm ranked as #5353 out of 299,541 in Air Supremacy. So it looks like there are nearly three hundred thousand people that own SGAS. That's quite a bit more than MetalstormForever's estimate at no more than 50,000, but it's still quite far behind MSWM's 8 million.
I'm sure that number's going to climb, as SGAS is still pretty new compared to MSWM, but I doubt SGAS will ever have more downloads than MSWM since the latter is free.

    1. Hold on, the numbers are shifting really fast. In the past few seconds, the number on SGAS just went from a little below 300,000 to over 350,000.
Maybe GC is not such a great indicator of players...
