Make Way for the Helix

P-33 Helix - Red White and Blue
The Helix has been re-released .

As we look at the Helix, we see that we have a plane that is tied for BEST-IN-FLEET in Missile tracking - tied with the Liberty.  Damage will be same as the Hawken (thats a good thing).  Outstanding Lock Range (not quite as good as the Eagle but close) and lock speed that is the same as the Hawken.  Overall, a formidable Weapons Class plane.  Missile tracking especially is a potent stat - more kills and less misses.

At 180 coins, it is a decent plane but honestly, I am at the point where I really don't see the point in buying plane after plane.  My advice is to perfect your skills with the planes that you have and then fully UPGRADE a select few planes.  Buying the plane of the week is really not going to improve your skills.

As you can see, of course, we have another re-skinned Hawken here.  The skies have blackened with all of the re-skinned hawkens flying over the metalstorm landscape like swarms of locust.

  1. I am thinking of getting another plane via tapjoy. Is this plane worth getting, or should I get the sentinel?
Or should I wait for a better plane to come out?

    1. Thresher, Reaper or Spectre, which One do you recomment as best buy?

      Delete
    2. The F-106 Thresher offers the best value for money. The FA-119 Reaper is the fastest fighter of them all and even comes with an Armor bonus. But it lacks extra Energy reserves. My verdict: The Reaper is best-in-fleet in Speed and Agility. And that is actually what you want from a good Agility Class fighter. So it is really unique and my favorite choice in the class.

      P. S.: The Reaper comes with a major size design flaw. When diving towards the ground while pulling the airbrake you can see through the plane. If you consider the cost of 205 coins it is really disappointing. I have told Z2Live but apparently they don't care.

    3. Then what about the Spectre? Is its overall lower stats than the Reaper justifiable by its only higher stats of its Energy reserves?

  3. Does anyone already has taken the Helix to battle? What are your experiences, how does it compare to the Hawken? I usually fly the Hawken with Standard weapons, so for me Missle reload speed and agility are crucial

    1. I bought the Helix and upgraded it right away out of sheer 'idiocy'? I never liked the weapons class planes but when I took this plane out for a spin, I was placed against Hawkens, Eagles, Reapers, Threshers, and Paladins. Against the Hawken, I was easily able to overpower it and at the end I managed to tally up a score of 4-2 victory. Its speed, maneuverability and its weapons stats made me change my mind about weapons class. Against the Eagle (not the green) I managed to finish off with a 5-3 victory using standards against Apollo cannons and Meteor missiles. (All my matches are flown with standard weapons). I completely obliterated the Reaper 4-1 (also using Apollo and Meteor) but my first loss came from going against a Paladin using Ram's and Banshee's. I was easily out gunned by a final score of 6-3. In a test of all my planes, I took each fully upgraded plane and went on single player survival mode. The Helix made it up to Level 11, Paladin up to Level 13, Thresher made it to Level 12, Red Widow made it to Level 11, and the Reaper made it to Level 13. Overall, the Helix is an amazing plane that turned this speed demon into a commando of a pilot. Helix vs Paladin? Paladin is my top choice by far. - Der Rote Baron ✠

    2. seriously???!!!!!!! i can get up to level 14 with a hawken thats missing 40%damage reduction and extra damage

    3. Weapon class is just about shit when it comes to survival. It ties with agility class cuz weapons class has good armor, it lacks the vital armor regen which agility provides. Try the raven, dragon, or green eagle (I happen to own all three). These will carry you to wave 20, given that you know how to SURVIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    4. I've gotten to level 27 in a fully upgraded THRESHER with stalk weapons! Don't hate on the agility man... We can kick defense butt and we can kick weapons butt even faster... cause name of the game is not guns but manuverability... which agility kicks A in.

  4. Lock range and missile tracking is way below my priority list for weapons class, so I'll pass.

  5. Would people really buy the Spectre when the Reaper's already out?

  6. Well, compared to the FA-230 Sentinel the bonus towards Damage (+12% vs. +17%) looks not really compelling. The extra Lock Range is nice to have as you can force your opponent into the defensive if you fire first. The combination of extra Lock Speed and Missile Tracking can give this fighter the edge in a dogfight although a more agile fighter like the F-51 Hawken might outmanouveur the Helix pilot.

In Campaign Mode where you use stock weapons the Hawken looks superior due its ideal combination of high fire rate and increased damage. But in Versus Mode the other two look quite economical as they don't waste expensive missiles, like the RAAM or the Phoenix, with the high fire rate but make more out of each missile. The P-33 Helix has the better accuracy and the Sentinel adds a bit more power to each punch.

It would be a nice survey to find out who of the three "sisters", F-51 Hawken, FA-230 Sentinel and P-33 Helix, is the best. And how do they compare to the mighty Red Widow?

    P. S.: For weeks my score in Survival Mode is stuck. Z2Live support apparently doesn't care as they don't reply to my e-mails. Has anyone of you the same issue or know a solution to this? Sorry for this off-topic, but it's really annoying and I want to resolve this.

  7. I bought Helix right away and hope it's the upgraded version of my Black Eagle.
I got Black Eagle in early stage and realized I cannot afford to upgrade 2nd plane with blue coins only from level up. Even I envied popular Hawken and some power classmates, I stick to my Black Eagle and fought through my first 3K SR... then I got Dragon ( green coin as well) with Tapjoy coins to fight upti 6 K SR.... Dragon is good and rarely to be beaten, but I could not shoot down opponents, either. My win rate down from 45% to 25%.
With Black Eagle accompanied me through campaigns, and not knowing how to fly defensive class efficiently, and not knowing how to control agility class well... I pick this Helix with my residual Tapjoy coins~
Helix's 'Damage','Lock range' and 'Lock speed' reminds me of my Black Eagle, then with better 'Missle tracking'... although 'Missle reload' is the stats I envy the most for Hawken,(it hurts at first cross fire) but... hope the 2% downgrade could have little impact~
Anyway, see you in the sky once I get used to my "upgraded Black Eagle"....

    ~One haven't fly Hawken so far~

  8. I bought the Helix today and Immediately tried it in Campaign mode. Is it just me or does it have an insanely fast missile reload speed?

I own an almost fully upgraded Hurrican, yet the Helix' seems to have a much greater reload speed despite not being upgraded at all.

  9. I was matched against a Helix today in versus mode. I was flying my fully upgraded Hawken. Both aircraft were sporting standard weapons (Vulcan and Sidewinder). The match ended 5 - 1 in favour of the Hawken. I doubt, that the Helix was fully upgraded, so in close and mid range dogfight (where I was able to gain 4 of the 5 kills), I expect the Helix to do better. But on far distance the outstanding missile reload speed of the Hawken proved to be superior against the better missile tracking and lock range of the Helix: I just fired a couple of Sidewinders in short intervall and the Helix was vaporized before it could launch more than two missiles.

  10. Hawken all the way....I'm a noob but my SR shot up quick...torched every sentinel and a handful of helix today...the are just too slow...only advantage is in distance...once you avoid first round and close in...it is over. Not even close. Is the specter that good? I'm a weapons pilot but I want to harness the reaper but supposedly a thrasher or specter is better...

    1. How many SR do you have then? Is your Hawken fully upgraded?

I too have a fully upgraded Hawken and consider to buy another weapon class aircraft with some other interesting bonus stats, like Lock range or Missile tracking. I wonder whether Helix is a good choice (naturally fully upgraded).

    2. People, skill is the thing that makes the game different. Planes only maximize your performance, but NO BIG DIFFERENCES if you're matched up with a mad ace. Don't expect so much from planes. I myself is so satisfied with my Wraith already, and can shoot down agility class and even the dragon using only standard weapons.

    3. The game is dominated by the great players and the great payers. Either you spend a lot of time on this game or a lot of money. Neither seems appealing to the casual gamer. So maybe the Helix is a good plane and its 8% Tracking bonus is nice but if your opponent flies a Bisnovat puking Red Widow you're at a great disadvantage right from the beginning, as he adds 100% Tracking bonus to each single shot he fires on you.

At the end of the day it's all about sitting in an arm chair, waving your telephone through the air and swiping over its screen. I don't want to waste hours of my leisure time on this or ridiculous amounts of money for pixel planes and virtual weapons. Thus, what can the casual gamer do if he doesn't want to be cannon fodder for the others?

    4. Such a player can play Farm or Tetris.

    5. Of course I can't expect much if met with a highly skilled player. But if his skill is the same as mine, I don't have problem even if he's using Red Widow + Bisnovats. And with a good plane with good bonus stats I'll have better chance to beat him. So the question is whether the combination of Lock range and Missile tracking is a good one? Or missile reload speed is better?

  12. It's funny on the game suggestion on Farm or Tetris...ha~
Missle reload works better than Lock range at first cross fire .. with +12% Lock range if you are against Hawken, your next round Missle will be only ready after you cross, but Hawken can shoot extra round!
Missle tracking is good at close dogfight since opponents will be in your sight shortly...

So again, pros and cons, just get one suits your flying style~

  13. Haha... funny for the game suggestion on Farm or Tetris :-)
'Missle reload' outperform "Lock range" at first cross fire, +12% Lock range still can only ready 2nd round missle after you cross opponent...
'Missle tracking' is good at close dogfight...
So again, pros and cons, just find one suit your flying style~

    1. Oh... I thought "missile tracking" is good for long range shooting! So it's for close dogfighting as you said. A combination of Lock range and Missile reload would be then the killer bonus.

Maybe I'll skip the Helix and wait for the Hurricane instead. Because the Helix is anyway the old airframe from the Hawken and Sentinel. Besides I wonder if Z2live will ever introduce the Copperhead's aircraft like the Red Widow of Vargas?
